Rafa Benitez: No intention of bringing Jack Colback into Newcastle plans

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that his side's last-gasp defeat at home to Bournemouth is hard to take.

Midfielder Mikel Merino has been sidelined with a back injury and will be out for at least two weeks, raising the question of Colback returning to the squad.

He continued, stating: "He is training with the U23's at the academy".

"Maybe the break is good, we can keep working with the players".

However, Hayden is fit enough to start against Bournemouth at St James's Park this afternoon.

"We have created chances in every game, then we have to score, that's it, it's not just to create, after you have to take your chances".

'He knew from the beginning that we have four or five midfielders and I didn't want to have six. I didn't want that.

Isaac Hayden, Merino's midfield colleague, started the Burnley game on the bench, having had a "little problems" in the build-up to the game. "We have to understand that in these sort of games we have to do better", he told reporters.

For all Benitez is confident he has cover, Merino's absence against the Cherries will come as a blow with the Spain under-21 worldwide, having made an impressive start to his career on Tyneside.

"We know he's not available so we have to concentrate on the other players".

Rafa Benitez was "unhappy" with the officials' decision to rule out a Newcastle goal for offside in their 1-0 defeat by Bournemouth on Saturday.

Judging by the criticism on Twitter, Newcastle fans will be hoping they do not see much of Murphy when their side next plays against Manchester United, at Old Trafford on November 18.

He said: "It's a long race. You have to be disappointed when you lose, but we're in a good position".
