New 'Star Wars' trilogy raises hopes for Disney Co

In 2015, the Star Wars franchise returning to theaters with its long-awaited seventh episode, The Force Awakens.

It is important to note the separate "Skywalker saga", which means it will not base its stories around the main characters of the original, second or current trilogies. Once The Force Awakens was released to financial and critical acclaim, the movie managed to rekindle the Star Wars flame, showing people that they could trust in the franchise again.

The studio recently made waves by announcing Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson is staying in the Lucasfilm family, developing an all-new trilogy that will take place in a corner of the galaxy that has never been explored before.

Johnson will be joined by producer, and a longtime collaborator of his, in Ram Bergman in crafting the new trilogy of new characters. "Rian will do wonderful things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy", Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said in a statement.

There was also a mention of "men of honor" and some fans believed that was a reference to Ring of Honor but that was not the case. After Zayn faced Kofi Kingston , Owens entered the ring and the pair attacked Kingston, then left the ring before the comeback.

Lucasfilm's president Kathleen Kennedy said in helming The Last Jedi, the director has proven that his vision is exactly what Disney wants moving forward.

Disney said no release dates have been set for the new trilogy.

While we've had eight Star Wars movies, various video games and quite a few cartoon series, this will be the universe's first foray into live action television. "Rian will do awesome things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy". "But man now I REALLY hope you like The Last Jedi". While there is always the chance that Disney will opt to start a brand new original story, there is actually a character already in their arsenal that would make for the flawless character for a television series... and her name is Doctor Aphra.

These announcements add to the heaps of Star Wars content on the horizon.
