Crystal Palace midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has set his sights on playing for England at next summer's World Cup.

On the on-loan Crystal Palace midfielder, Southgate told his post-match press conference: "He's a player I've watched do that from under-16 level and despite his size and his appearance and the way he plays, he's not hugely confident at times".

England's Eric Dier says that Gareth Southgate's young charges played well against world champions Germany.

"He's got two feet, he's got energy and pace, he can score a goal and he can create goals".

Southgate is without a number of first-team regulars for the games against Germany and Brazil, with the likes of Kane, Henderson, Sterling and Alli all unavailable due to injury.

"If we'd won it would have been better, but it was a tough game, and a good game from me to learn from".

The 21-year-old was named "Man of the Match", with his parent club taking to Twitter to congratulate him on his worldwide outing.

Asked after the England match if a lack of games at Chelsea has held him back, Loftus-Cheek replied: "Yeah, definitely". I had Gareth in charge for almost three years at the Under-21s and the boys have been great. "It's fantastic and I just want that feeling more and develop to be the best player I can be". I don't think the wider public will be as aware of him, you would have to have followed him very closely, but we believe in him and the others we played.

The stats make for good reading as Loftus-Cheek had a 96 percent pass completion rate, completing 50 successful passes out of 52.

"I believe that if you do all the right things, in time you will get your opportunities". Gareth said to do my best like I normally do.

Loftus-Cheek's impressive performance is particularly exciting for England supporters at a time when Southgate has made improving the technical quality of his midfield a priority, and the 20-year-old said a dream debut at Wembley has inspired him to kick on.

"It was a brilliant experience for our players and we've now got to see if we can try and replicate that against a side who rested a lot of their players today on Tuesday".
