Real Madrid's Bale to miss Atletico game with injury

The injury disclosed Friday is Bale's 19th since joining Real Madrid four years ago from Tottenham Hotspur and he could be sidelined for anywhere from 10 to 30 days.

However, the Spanish club decided that Bale would not join his national team this week and instead remain in Madrid with a view to making a possible comeback at Atletico Madrid in the derby on November 18.

There is no estimate for the length of time the Real star will be missing but it is just the latest in a series of injury blows that have blighted Bale in 2017. With Real Madrid struggling this season - they trail Barcelona by eight points already - his return was seen as crucial to helping them turn things around.

However, for many in Madrid, those moments have been far too fleeting for the club's record purchase.

For a long time untouchable, the "BBC" front three of Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo haven't played a single minute together so far this season.

Bale hasn't played for Madrid since September when he was ruled unfit to play because of "swelling (.) to the soleus muscle of his left leg".

Bale suffered a calf injury towards the end of that game and missed Wales' final two World Cup qualifiers last month as a result.
