But the end for the Cyclones - a 49-42 loss - was as devastating as it possibly could have been.

Iowa State quarterback Kyle Kempt began the game by completing 12 of his 18 attempts for 101 yards and one touchdown, but an undisclosed injury forced him to leave in the second quarter.

After both teams failed to move the ball, ISU took over at its own 13-yard line with 2:55 left. Iowa State has beaten both teams and would get into the title game on a tiebreaker with wins over Baylor and Kansas State to finish the season.

Dillion Stone caught a 19-yard touchdown catch two minutes later to give the Cowboys the lead.

The Cyclones were poised to score with less than a minute on the clock, but a pass break up by Rodarius Williams in the end zone followed by a touchback interception by A.J. Green, secured the Cowboys win.
