James, who has always been generally well received by Knicks fans and has two 50-point games at Madison Square Garden on his résumé already, was asked if that vibe could change Monday following his recent comments. And one of those whose interest was piqued was LeBron James, who recently said Smith was a "diamond in the rough".

Knicks big man Enes Kanter came to Ntilikina's defense on Twitter on Saturday night and elaborated on his stance at practice Sunday. "Dallas is definitely, I know they're excited that he didn't go there", James said.

"I had nothing but respect for him as a coach for what he was able to do at the helm", James said last November.

"They're both great young players", Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said. It's just that you stating what you see.

Although Smith is only 11 games into his career, he's looked the part of a franchise point guard-especially since the start of the month.

I don't know about you, but if I was sitting next to LeBron, J.R. and the rest of the Cavs, it would be a pretty great day. We love what we got. "I can not let anyone disrespect my family like that".

The Mavs rookie has been one of the lone bright spots for this struggling unit, averaging 14.2 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game. "I can not just let him disrespect him like that", Kanter said.

"To be honest with you, they got on and they completely squished me and he was really unaware of his space", Angelo said, adding, "It was first thing in the morning". It's all about me and it's all about the team. He compared his comments to his thoughts that the Cleveland Browns should have drafted quarterback Deshaun Watson with the No. 1 pick, saying that doesn't mean Myles Garrett won't become a top defensive player.

"I don't care, it doesn't matter LeBron or whoever it is".
