4th person shot dead in Tampa neighborhood

Police searched Tampa's cordoned-off Seminole Heights neighborhood Tuesday, after a fourth person was shot dead, possibly by by the same killer.

Police believe the four killings, none of which involved a robbery or other obvious motive, may be related.

Until they can rule it out, police said they're investigating Tuesday's shooting death as one connected with the neighborhood's previous killings.

Interim Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan said it is extremely possible that the killer - or killers - live in the neighborhood.

The man is dead and police are calling the incident suspicious.

The first responding sergeant got to the scene in "about a minute", Tampa police spokesman Steve Hegarty said.

Hegarty said the suspect couldn't have "gone very far, and we're talking to as many people as we can to see what they may have seen".

Last week, in a separate case, police arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of killing three homeless men in and around Fort Lauderdale on Florida's Atlantic coast.

"The suspect is described as a black male, 6′ to 6′ 2" tall and has a thin build and a light complexion. Investigators believe he lives in the neighborhood and was still in the area.

Eight schools in Seminole Heights were placed on lock-in as a precautionary measure for part of the morning on Tuesday.

Dugan said based on the preliminary investigation, he is comfortable to say this is related to last month's trio of unsolved murders, until new information proves otherwise.
