US Navy sends 'powerful message' in rare carrier exercise

Three U.S. Navy nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft carriers-the USS Ronald Reagan, USS Nimitz, USS Theodore Roosevelt-kicked off a four-day naval drill in the Western Pacific on November 11.

The first such deployment of three USA carriers since 2007 "is making it impossible to predict when nuclear war breaks out due to the United States nuclear war equipment" taking up a "strike posture", he wrote.

The Pacific Fleet held massive joint maritime drills with South Korea off the Korean peninsula's east coast.

The last time three United States aircraft carrier strike groups worked together in the Western Pacific was off the U.S. island of Guam in 2007, according to a Navy statement.

He added, "This exercise in the Western Pacific is a strong testament to the U.S".

Biden, who stopped by the show while on a press tour for his new book " Promise Me, Dad ", refused to say if he would consider running for president in 2020.

These exercises typically happen when an aircraft carrier deployed to the 7th Fleet area of operations joins with the carrier based in Japan.

Special Representative for North Korea Policy Joseph Yun will meet South Korean and worldwide officials, according to the US State Department, although there is no indication his visit will include talks with the North, Reuters reported.

"The JMSDF is always using every opportunity to strengthen the JMSDF-USN alliance, and joining an exercise like this is a natural event to stabilize regional security", a statement from the Maritime Self-Defense Force said.

Although Japan had agreed to a US plan to stage a tripartite exercise with South Korea, it did not materialize because of the schedule of South Korean forces, according to sources in the Japanese government.

"North Korean news outlets described the carriers" presence as a provocation, and officials in Pyongyang told CNN that they are concerned that Trump intends to start a conflict. "The U.S. efforts to expand its military influence in Asia-Pacific and the movement of big neighboring powers to contain it escalate the military tension and increase arms race in the region with each passing day", it said.
