Broncos reportedly fire offensive coordinator Mike McCoy

"After careful consideration, I've named Bill Musgrave our offensive coordinator for the rest of the season and made the hard decision to part ways with Mike McCoy", Broncos first-year coach Vance Joseph said in a statement.

The news comes on the heels of the Raiders scoring 17 points or fewer in their sixth game out of 10 contests after the team chose to not extend Musgrave in favor of promoting quarterbacks coach Todd Downing to the offensive coordinator role.

McCoy's time in Denver is over, and the Broncos are left with the same mess they would have had before they were down an offensive coordinator. After having led the Chargers to San Diego for four years, he returned to Colorado this year, but the team has scored only 183 points in 10 games. The Broncos, who benched Trevor Siemian in favor of Brock Osweiler in Week 9, lost at home Sunday to the Bengals, 20-17.

Musgrave is also in his first season with the Broncos' staff, having spent the last two years as the Raiders' offensive coordinator. Denver ranks 18th in the National Football League in total offense, but only 24th in scoring (18.3 points per game).

The Broncos started 3-1 but have dropped to the AFC West cellar during the losing streak. It was actually his second stint as the Broncos' offensive coordinator. "I want to thank Vance for the opportunity he gave me and the entire organization from Mr. B all the way on down". I try to make my game better every week.
