Infiniti QX50 debuts in LA

THE latest SUV from Japanese premium marque Infiniti will feature a world first in engine technology when it arrives next year.

Additionally, the QX50 will be the first Infiniti to offer Nissan's ProPilot semi-autonomous driver assist system, which can already be found in the 2018 Nissan Rogue and Leaf models.

More details of the new medium-sized SUV have been released as the vehicle gets its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The 2019 Infiniti QX50 follows each and everything that the brand stands for including design, advanced technologies and top of the line performance.

The QX50's launch is scheduled for early next year in the USA, and may make it to the United Kingdom late in 2018.

The new mid-size QX50 features the first-ever variable-compression engine.

The new engine will be matched to Infiniti's Xtronic "shift by wire" continuously variable transmission and will now have the power transmitted to the road via a front-wheel-drive based configuration with an available intelligent all-wheel drive system.

Karim Habib, Infiniti's director of design, said the 2019 QX50′s aerodynamic exterior reinterprets Infiniti's "powerful elegance" design language and signature design cues for the crossover segment, while also delivering on the promises embodied in the QX50 Concept and QX Sport Inspiration. It combines a confident stance with deep character lines.

The engineering design of the vehicle offers new standards of refinement and interior space in the compact crossover segment. Inside there's more space than before with higher quality materials with an asymmetric layout. Its asymmetric layout and calm, connected ambience is created to meet different needs of the driver and passengers.

The QX50 will also come with the Infiniti ProPILOT semi-autonomous driving technology which enables the auto to control itself in traffic and while motorway cruising.

The new 2.0 litre four cylinder unit is capable of changing its compression ratio on the fly by adjusting the pistons' stroke, producing efficiency or power.

The new Infiniti QX50 will be fitted with a 2.0-litre turbo engine that can alter its compression ratio to give the performance of a petrol model with the economy of a diesel.
