Netflix to Make 6th Season of 'House of Cards'

Netflix has said the final season of U.S. political drama "House of Cards" will start production next year and will not star Kevin Spacey, who is facing a number of allegations of sexual misconduct.

After a number of allegations were reported against Spacey, Netflix announced it would not move forward with him in any capacity.

It remains to be seen if the series will debut in its previously-scheduled release window of 2018.

"Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey", Netflix shared in a statement at the time.

There's a new lead in town to finish House of Cards.

Wright plays Claire Underwood, who started out as a less central figure on the show than her husband.

"We are really excited about being able to bring some closure for the fans", Sarandos said. Production on these episodes will kick off early next year, and we're starting to get a good sense as to how the show is going to work in the wake of Kevin Spacey's firing amid a sexual harassment and abuse scandal. Up until this point, each season of the popular drama has run 13-episodes.

Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of sexually assaulting when he was 14 years old and numerous allegations have since emerged against the actor. Perhaps, more importantly, it means 2,000 people who work in the Baltimore area will continue to have work and not be punished for the misconduct of one person.

Last week producers had informed the cast and crew that the hiatus on season six would be extended through December 8th, and that the crew will continue to be paid during the break.

Production of the series will resume in January. The show was about two weeks into filming the new season.
