The associate head coach oversaw the team's recent victory over the Orlando Magic because Clifford was feeling ill.

Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford will be stepping away from the team to address his health, according to the team.

There is no timetable for Clifford to return to the team, and no details about what he may be dealing with were released by the team out of respect for his privacy. In the meantime, assistant coach Stephen Silas will coach the Hornets. He missed some time in his first season after experiencing chest pains.

However, they have not done so thus far, as they have gotten off to a disappointing 9-13 start and have lost four of their last five games.

The road where the crash happened was closed all day as forensic officers carried out an investigation but it has since reopened. Emergency services cut open the vehicle to free them but they were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Get well soon, Steve.

Say what you will about the team, but he's been a good ambassador and is a cultural fit in Charlotte. "All that other stuff will go out the window when it's time to coach".
