Organizations are scrambling to put fixes for the Meltdown and Spectre flaws in place, as makers of operating systems, cloud services, mobile devices and more start to release patches (see Meltdown and Spectre: Patches and Workarounds Appear).

Microsoft also cautions that besides Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 2012 do not have antivirus installed by default.

Surface and Surface Book users can expect an automatic firmware update from Microsoft but those with other hardware will need to check with their vendors.

Microsoft's patch is created to address two serious design flaws in computer chips that can be used to steal sensitive data from your PC.

Although Microsoft officially ended the free Windows 10 upgrade offer past year, it is still possible to get the new operating system completely free of charge by using a simple trick.

The emergency fix is immediately available for Windows 10 users.

The new driveline will be available in various trims and body configurations for both 2-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive trucks . Powering the diesel model is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that will be offering about 250hp and 440lb ft of torque.

If that wasn't enough, Microsoft also made two changes to its Edge and Internet Explorer browsers to mitigate potential exploits by attacks through JavaScript. The result will be a more secure, but - as Linux creator Linus Torvalds says - slower operating system.

Microsoft also issued a statement about the processor exploits stating that the company has released "security updates to protect Windows customers against vulnerabilities affecting supported hardware chips from Intel, ARM, and AMD".

But that registry requirement doesn't appear to be causing the problem with AMD processors, as some users report that they have compatible anti-virus software running.

If you installed earlier updates, only the new fixes contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

The company recommends users to install the update as soon as possible if you haven't already.

AMD's CPUs may have been immune to Meltdown and Spectre, but it turns out they are not immune to Microsoft's patch for the same.
