HTC announces Vive Pro headset, wireless Vive adaptor

In good news for resolution-hungry owners of the original, HTC confirmed that the Vive Pro will be available in a headset-only SKU, and that it will remain compatible with existing HTC Vive tracking boxes and wands.

They also reported that the Vive Pro would include on-board speakers, not stating whether they'll be on-ear headphones like the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, or hidden projection speakers similar to those on the Vive Focus headset.

Currently, there are no details about upgraded optics in the form of new lenses, but considering Valve's announcement of new lenses for future VR headsets, I would expect these to be included in the Vive Pro.

The Vive Pro and the wireless adaptor are two features that may help foster more interest from mainstream consumers.

Teasing the news earlier with a tweet about New Year's resolution, HTC revealed the re-designed VR machine and all the goodies inside. But the pricey system required an equally pricey PC, and the cable attachments between the two made for a clunky experience.

Last year, at Computex, HTC announced that it was working with Intel to create a wireless VR solution that uses Intel's WiGig wireless data transmission technology. "Wireless VR has been on almost every VR user's wish list since the technology was unveiled", Frank Soqui, GM of the virtual reality group at Intel, said in a statement. HTC said that the adaptor will offer "lower latency and better performance". It didn't disclose the pricing. The headset itself looks far less clunky than the original, and HTC has added a blue color to the key elements and the front display.

Because of that, we can expect San Antonio to keep Leonard off the court until they're certain he can't do any further damage. The shoulder injury comes right when Leonard was starting to see increased minutes in his return from the quad injury.

During their conference, HTC announced the HTC Vive Pro.

"Vive we truly believe is the industry standard when it comes to VR", said Daniel O'Brien, general manager of the HTC Vive. Both the original Vive and the Vive Pro will support this adapter set to be available this summer.

This resolution enhances immersion for VR enthusiasts, and the improved clarity means text, graphics and overall experience all come into sharper view. Instead, users will see "fully immersive interactive previews".

Lastly, HTC said it upgraded its native VR video player, Vive Video.

The update is called Viveport VR, and it'll put users in a glossy, futuristic environment from where they can access all of Viveport's content, making it easier to discover new videogames and apps.
