The Yankees miss out on righthander Gerrit Cole.

If the Yankees really want Gerrit Cole, it may not be too late: The Astros GM said that a deal for the Pirates righthander isn't "imminent", despite previous reports saying one was almost done.

"We have talked to several teams about possible trades", Luhnow told the Houston Chronicle. Instead, he will join an Astros staff that already included Dallas Keuchel and Justin Verlander.

The report comes after weeks of speculation that Cole could be headed to the New York Yankees.

In five years with the Pirates, Cole has a 59-42 record with a 3.50 ERA, averaging 156 innings a season in 127 starts. His best season came in 2015, when he posted a career-high 19 wins and career-low 2.60 ERA en route to his only all-star appearance. Cole did top 200 innings for the second time in 2017 and also saw his strikeout numbers tick back up close to one per inning.

The Yankees' rotation now includes Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray and CC Sabathia.
