Creative Assembly Announces Total War: Three Kingdoms

What's most incredible about the trip to China is that it's the first time a mainline historical Total War has visited a new era since Empire's release in 2009 (Shogun and Rome being sequels to older games). The Han Dynasty crumbles before the child-emperor. It makes sense that the United Kingdom, based development studio would focus much of their attention to detail around European history, but they did branch out every once in a while with games like Total War: Shogun and Total War: Atilla.

With a heritage of award-winning AAA titles, including the multi-million selling Total War™ series, Creative Assembly continues to build an impressive portfolio of games and world-renowned partnerships; working with Games Workshop on Total War™: WARHAMMER®, Wargaming Alliance on Total War™: ARENA, Twentieth Century Fox on Alien: Isolation, plus 343 Industries and Microsoft on Halo Wars 2. It is a brutal and oppressive regime, and as Dong Zhuo's power grows, the empire slips further into the cauldron of anarchy.

Creative Assembly appear to have jumped the gun in announcing Total War: Three Kingdoms, first by a quickly-deleted Tweet "announcing a new Total War era" which linked to a countdown pointing toward tomorrow, then by an early YouTube livestream revealing the trailer. Sensing opportunity, warlords from China's great families follow suit, forming a fragile coalition in a bid to challenge Dong Zhuo's remorseless rule. I was completely certain Game of Thrones would be the next instalment in the Total War franchise, but this is a welcome surprise. The press release mentioned the launch of the game's Steam page, but it isn't available at the moment of this writing.
