Sanders also took a dig at Schiff during the White House press briefing on Thursday afternoon. In an op-ed in the New York Times a little more than a week ago, Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch, the co-founders of Fusion GPS, alleged they were being targeted to divert attention from the main issue. That also prompted criticism of the Iowa Republican.

Grassley refused to release the transcripts, saying he would do so eventually, but that publication at this time would jeopardize the investigation.

"I'm not surprised by Sarah Huckabee Sanders' attack", he added.

Schiff blamed the chairman of the House intelligence committee, Republican Rep. Devin Nunes, for the fact that the committee has interviewed "less than half of the number of witnesses" as the Senate intelligence committee, which is also conducting a Russian Federation probe, maintaining that "the chairman has a different agenda", PBS News Hour reported. Whether in public remarks or on Twitter, the President has repeatedly called the special counsel investigation led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller a "witch hunt", dismissing it as a frivolous investigation launched by his political enemies seeking to delegitimize his 2016 election victory.

Schiff wants to broaden the list of witnesses, including the president's daughter, Ivanka.

Even though the committee has interviewed almost all the participants in the Trump Tower meeting, Schiff says there are additional witnesses "who knew the subject" of the Trump Tower meeting that need to be interviewed.

Already a year ago , some Democrats had warned against negotiating with Trump, specifically on immigration. "They are incensed. As always, I look forward to considering additional ideas that could make the proposal even better, ' he said.

"There are witnesses who have knowledge of the Trump Tower meeting and what it was about prior to the meeting that have not been brought before our committee", Schiff told reporters.

Schiff said the committee has interviewed a total of 56 witnesses, less than half of the number interviewed in a similar Senate probe.

The California lawmaker denied the allegations in a CNN interview. The Senate panel's interviews are performed by staff. Schiff says the GOP should agree to subpoena for that information if Trump Jr. does not provide details to the committee.

Democrat Dianne Feinstein of California caused an uproar earlier this week by releasing the transcript of private conversations between congressional investigators and a political researcher who, on behalf of Democrats, hired a former British spy in 2016 to document any ties between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

"The Committee is working to develop well-supported findings that will help the 2018 elections against hacking and other potential disruptions by foreign powers", the spokesman said, according to the outlet.
