Modi's meeting with Netanyahu in Jerusalem in July past year saw India and Israel upgrading bilateral relations to a strategic partnership with special focus on agriculture and water.

Netanyahu is the first Israeli Prime Minister to visit India since Ariel Sharon came in 2003.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had told reporters that Netanyahu will hold a roadshow with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad on Jan 17. Reuven Rivlin, the current president of the West Asian nation, visited India in 2016. He said the Indian prime minister will host Netanyahu in his home state and termed it as an "important gesture".

"We (Israel and India) will sign many agreements".

Moreover, the leaders will also "discuss a detailed working plan for the next five years, pursuant to the government's decision to strengthen bilateral ties", the statement said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accompanied by 130 businesspeople from over a hundred Israeli companies, flew to India last night for a historic visit. The six-day visit marks a quarter century of bilateral relations.

Modi, who became the first Indian prime minister to visit Israel six months ago, has addressed Netanyahu as a "friend". A series of agreements and pacts are likely to be signed by the two sides. They will also visit the iCreate innovation campus and center in Ahmedabad.

Moshe Holtzberg, the toddler who survived the November 2008 Mumbai terror attack but lost his parents, will also join the trip with his grandparents and his courageous Indian nanny, Sandra Samuels, who saved him.

The Israeli PM would be formally welcomed Monday morning at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

He would then participate in a dialogue at Hyderabad House which will also include a one-on-one discussion with Modi.

The road show is said to be an 8-kilometre drive from the airport to the Sabarmati Ashram.

The Israeli leader, accompanied by dozens of Israeli businessmen, will visit the Centre of Excellence in Agriculture at Vadrad in Gujarat and interact with business leaders in Mumbai.

Netanyahu would arrive in Mumbai on Wednesday in the evening where he will meet the Indian Jewish community.
