An more 10 children have died of flu in the US, bringing the aggregate to 63 out of a cruel season that is as yet picking up power, government wellbeing authorities said Friday.

There were 40,414 deaths in the United States during the third week of 2018, the most recent data available, and 4064 were from pneumonia or influenza, according to the CDC data. That was the case with the swine flu back in 2009, but for this year's flu season, it's just a particularly prevalent case of an illness we've seen before - reaching pandemic levels while not actually being a pandemic.

"I wish there were better news this week, but nearly everything we're looking at is bad news", Schuchat said.

"This season is a wake-up call about how severe influenza can be and how we can never let our guard down", Schuchat continued.

The CDC began tracking hospitalizations in 2010.

Schuchat also revealed that one in every 10 people who died in the US last week had suffered flu-like symptoms.

According to state surveillance reports released Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, flu activity continues to be high in Iowa.

Overall, the data showed 14,094 new laboratory-confirmed cases of illness during the week ending February 3, bringing the season total to 151,983. By every major indicator used by the CDC, flu activity is rising and not falling.

Vikings Tap Eagles QB Coach DeFilippo For OC
The Vikings had a vacancy at their OC spot after Pat Shurmur left to become the head coach of the New York Giants at season's end. But the great thing about our team and our coaching staff is, they work so well together and they do it all together.

In early December, the Vermont Department of Health says about 2 percent of all hospital visits were attributed to flu-like symptoms.

She said: "Influenza A/H3 influenza viruses are known to be associated with higher morbidity and mortality than H1 and B viruses; and during H3 predominant seasons, we see increases in disease burden [the impact of a health problem as measured by financial cost, mortality and other indicators]".

"The virus may also reduce the severity of symptoms of you catch the flu in spite of being vaccinated".

The flu has claimed the lives of four more people in Clark County, according to the Southern Nevada Health District.

Schuchat noted that while influenza A (H3N2) remains the predominant strain, influenza B viruses are comprising about 30% of viruses reported in this week's data.

It's still "worthwhile" for unvaccinated people to get a flu shot Schuchat said. In Oregon and Hawaii, flu is occurring at a more limited regional level, rather than statewide. Those groups include young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with heart or lung disease.

This flu season, hospitalization rates have surpassed the nasty season of the winter of 2014-2015, when the vaccine was a poor match to the main bug.
