Yoel Romero misses weight ahead of UFC 221 fight with Luke Rockhold

10 (in North America), the UFC will host UFC 221: Romero vs. Rockhold from the Perth Arena in Perth, Western Australia, Australia.

The fight tonight would have marked Romero's second attempt in a row at a UFC Interim Middleweight title.

Romero, who had never missed weight in his career, came in well over the 185lb limit for his interim title fight against Luke Rockhold. If he defeats Rockhold (16-3), he would be granted only a win, not a title.

Several UFC stars feature in this new comedy sketch from Troy Kinne & Co.

However, despite the two hour allotment to get his weight down, Romero was unable to hit the mark.

Rockhold, a Soquel High alum and former middleweight champion, was initially scheduled to fight Robert Whittaker, the current champ.

Before that loss to Overeem, Hunt went 2-0 with two first-round knockouts of Antonio Silva and Frank Mir followed by a NC that was originally a UD loss to Brock Lesnar at UFC 200 before being overturned because his opponent tested positive for a banned substance.

But when Whittaker was ruled out through illness on January 13, Romero was named as his replacement, with the fight downgraded to interim belt status.

Rockhold is on a quest to reclaim the belt that he lost to Michael Bisping in 2016, which was the only time since 2013 that the talented fighter has been defeated.
