Huawei Launches MateBook X Pro with Slimmer Bezels and Pop-Up Webcam

Starting at €1499 sometime in the spring, and going all the way up to €1899 when offering discrete Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics, as well as 512GB solid-state storage, the Huawei MateBook X Pro looks as stunning in real life as it did in its first official product images. The premise behind the redesigned charger is that you only need one charger for all of your electronics and with more devices moving towards the USB-C standard, this definitely appears to be the case.

Naturally, that rules out thick bezels.

Announced at Mobile World Congress, the X Pro is seriously accomplished piece of design.

The thin bezels all around mean there's no space for a Windows Hello-compatible IR camera, so Huawei took the power button and turned it into a fingerprint sensor.

To accommodate the bigger display, Huawei chose to remove the webcam from the top of the screen.

The keyboard is backlit, spill-proof and has a nifty pop-up webcam that's hidden in the top row of keys. Instead, it's located within the keyboard, recessed into a neat little housing that pops up when you press it.

To create a screen that covers almost the entire face, Huawei removed the camera from the typical position above the screen and hid it under the F7 key. These are using Dolby Atmos tech to get the most out of them, and in my brief time with the laptop they sounded good. Prices range from Euro 1,499 to Euro 1,899. It's also half a pound lighter at 2.49 pounds.

Tiffany Haddish Will Host the MTV Movie and TV Awards
The Girls Trip star will be lending her voice to the character of Tuca and also serves as the executive producer of the show. Netflix also recently announced an animated series starring Haddish.

We don't now know the pricing for any of the three MediaPad 5 devices, and Huawei hasn't yet shared the release date.

To that end, the firm's positioning it as somewhat of an audio powerhouse. It also offers quad speakers with treble tweeters and subwoofers.

And, the difference is notable: watching a video with the volume turned up, it's easy to pick up the subtle variations in sound. For audio, the notebook relies on four speaker system along with a 360-degree audio-capture technology.

Huawei envisions people using it to shout orders at Microsoft's Cortana digital assistant from across the room. Essentially, the camera is only enabled when you physically press the key to pop it up.

CALL IT IN Want an iPhone 9?

The MediaPad M5 8.4 features a 5,100mAh battery, while the other two tablets come with 7,500mAh battery packs, and all three tablets offer 9V/2A fast charging, which you will be able to utilize through a Type-C USB port.

Huawei is yet to announce a price, but we're pretty confident it will be less than £1,099. Critics are likely to point to the aesthetic similarities to Apple's MacBook Pro, but at least Huawei has made sure elements like the diamond-cut edges on the aviation-spec aluminum are nicely finished.
