Forbes said a record 35 people have joined the list of the world's billionaires, with the magazine calculating there are now 2,208 people with a net worth of more than 1bn dollars. The business tycoon, with $3.1 billion is now ranked 766th this year, down from a 544th ranking last year. The average net worth on the list is $4.1 billion, also a record.

The world's two largest economies dominated the list. Bezos has become the first billionaire to surpass the $100 billion mark on Forbes' list of richest person.

The magazine estimated Bezos has a net worth of $112 billion, making him the first and only "centi-billionaire"- exceeding the $100 billion mark. That's after his net worth leapt more than $39 billion in a single year, according to Forbes' estimates.

American business magnate Bill Gates is the founder of Microsoft.

She also was ranked the world's seventh richest woman, with Alice Walton, daughter of the founder of USA retail giant Walmart, taking out the top spot with her $US42 billion fortune.

According to the Forbes 2018 Billionaires List, Kuok's fortune past year was rated at US$14.5 billion (RM56.5 billion), although he is now worth US$15.4 billion at present market value.

Forbes estimates Mr Trump's worth collapsed from $US3.5 billion ($4.4 billion) to $US3.1 billion ($3.9 billion) this year, with the magazine saying it was partially due to a fall in NY property values and a dip in revenues at his golf courses.

The 20 richest people on the planet have a net-worth of over $1.2 trillion, which is comparable to the yearly economic output of Mexico.

The U.S. has the most billionaires with 585, more than 200 above China with 373.
