The Home Minister Rajnath Singh took a jibe against the Congress Party by saying that BJP's recent victory in North East changed the perception that only Congress can survive there.

Outgoing chief minister Mukul Sangma said, "I wish the new team my best wishes and I hope they do justice to the people and the state befitting to the expectations and aspirations of those who have given them the mandate". "Our high command has sent three senior leaders to Meghalaya to ensure that horse trading doesn't take place there but ultimately we can't compete with the money power of BJP" Gogoi said on Sunday.

Conrad Sangma (40) is the youngest son of former Lok Sabha Speaker (L) P A Sangma who died in 2016. Sangma is now is the Lok Sabha MP from the Tura parliamentary constituency in Meghalaya.

During the first ever cabinet meeting, Chief Secretary also briefed the Ministers on different issues of the states besides the schemes and programmes in the state. All MLAs of different political parties must work and in that we may face several challenges, but surely we will become successful, " he told reporters.

On Tuesday morning, Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad administered the oath of office to Mr. Sangma and 11 Cabinet Ministers at the Raj Bhavan in Meghalaya capital Shillong.

To win the elections the NPP formed an alliance with the United Democratic Party, the People's Democratic Front, and the Hill State People's Democratic party and the BJP of course.

The NPP with 19 seats is supported by the BJP (2), the UDP (6), the PDF (4), the HSPDP (2) and an Independent.

Although BJP only won two seats in the Meghalaya Assembly Elections held on February 27, it stitched up an effective alliance with other regional parties to create a coalition government and snatch the state from the Congress Party.
