Microsoft reportedly working on curved 'Arc Soft' Windows Phone keyboard

WMPoweruser claims that Microsoft's research team is working on a curved software keyboard that might be made available in Windows Phone 8. The site has managed land an image of the onscreen keyboard in action (above), which they claim to be a leaked Microsoft Research presentation.
The curved keyboard appears to be designed for single-handed use, following the arc of the thumb across the screen and presumably using predictive text technonolgy to make up for the heaps of mistakes the keyboard is likely to cause.
What is more interesting is that fact that the keyboard in question is appears to be demoed on a first generation HTC trophy, meaning there's in nothing stopping it coming to Windows Phone 7.8 - well, if the whole thing is not a hoax.
What do you guys make of this, is it something that could be useful to you?
