Microsoft giving Windows Phone 7.x users a chance to suggest Windows Phone 7.8 features
September 9, 2012 at 15:14 GMT | By Darlington Moyo

We were always of the opinion that the Windows Phone 7.8 update (for current Windows Phone devices) was always going to be more than just a porting of the Windows Phone 8 start screen to Windows Phone 7. A few weeks ago, some Windows Phone 7.8 features were leaked via internal Nokia document. Unfortunately, most of the features listed in the leaked document were either Nokia-exclusive applications or features that are already in Windows Phone Tango.
It now appears that Microsoft had not begun working on - or are far from completing - the 7.8 update as a Microsoft forum admin who goes by the name of "Mobile Guru" posted on their User Voice page asking forum user to suggest features they want to see on Windows Phone 7.8. For the benefit of those that have just emerged from underneath a rock, Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8 do NOT share a common kernel, meaning that some Windows Phone 8 features are hardware reliant. It has to do with the Windows Phone 8's hardware specifications, something current phones currently can't meet.
Back to the matter at hand, here is the forum post in full:

As you know, Windows Phone 8 is a generational shift in technology, which means that it will not run on existing hardware.
BUT we care deeply about our existing customers and would like to know SPECIFICALLY what features you would like to see on 7.8 and vote INDIVIDUALLY for the one that you want most (vs. one large grab bag of features).
If you want to have your voice heard then register your thoughts here. The thread has already received some 53,000+ votes, so we doubt the Windows Phone team will be ignoring it. Do it now!
